BACKGROUND: There is need for various knowledge in primary care to be included in the education of physicians and other health care personnel, such as the health problems of the population in Serbia, the natural history of diseases, the effects of risk factors, the clinical process, the doctor-patient relationship, and the effectiveness of medical care and prevention. The study aims to apply the Information Communication Technologies - ICT in the physician education in primary care.
METHODS: Implementation of the ICT in Serbia by means of various mobile telephone services and Internet, as well as multimedial technologies.
RESULTS: On-going process in primary care becomes better by systematic activities based on ICT. Enormous quantities of information are available to all physicians and other health care personnel at the same time. Modern primary care has thanks to fast development digital technologies: teleconferencing and videoconferencing which enables for the simultaneous two-way communication in transmitting picture and sound and visual contact between distant participants by communication links. Multimedial tools and digital communications are solved a problem of quick communication and cheap connecting of all very distant participants.
CONCLUSION: There is consensus in Serbia on the need of the implementation of physician education by ICT. ICT enrich healthcare system by enormous quantity of information and eliminate the distance barrier between the patient and doctor, between medical or pharmaceutical institutions and doctors in primary care.
