Studies in the field of the quality of health protection, approximation measurement of the quality concerning the level of the knowledge of medicine and operativeness of health workers/physicians aimed at solving a certain health problem, are very important both in the public health and clinical aspects. Chest pain is on the top of the health distortion pyramid with specific requirements for treating that problem. Study on est mating the quality and knowledge level of physicians in primary health care in Serbia, was conducted in December 2002-March 2003. 334 physicians has been questioned: 175 DGP ( doctor without specialisation } and 159 DSGP (doctor-specialist }. Results of the study are that a satisfactory knowledge level (with 12 and more correct answers) had 75,1% of the physicians, in the group DGP 77,7% and in the group DSGP 72,3%. The highest level of knowledge in DGP have physicians with 10-15 years of working experience- 84,4%, in DSGP with specialist experience of 5-15 years- 85%. Statistically significant difference between physicians with or without specialist courses does not exist. Analysing the level of knowledge concerning some questions, we should say that continuing education is essential in the aim of refreshing the knowledge and positions, especially for treating illnesses with great socio-epidemiological importance. It is essential to find means of raising the level of motivation of the physicians, for education and improving the ways of everyday working practice thus being able to give health protection of a better quality to patients. Of a great importance is to give support in practising according to the Law and to the correct managing of evidence.
