Background:
Health care Systems in Low Income Countries are often suffering from lack of quality of care. Although lack of funds is at the basis of this problem, there is room for improvement. The joint conference of WONCA and WHO in London, Ontario, Canada (994) made several recommendations for putting the General Practitioner in the centre of these reforms.
Method: Medline search (key-words: family practice, developing countries, health services research, medical education, continuing) from 1995-2000.
Results: A review of the literature will be presented in the workshop.
Conclusion:
Although the concept of General Practice is embraced by WHO, the number of projects in which General Practice is incorporated in the existing health care System is limited. (this abstract is part of the workshop: benefits from mutual exchange...)
