Objective: Promote knowledge of the territory and emphasize its importance in the planning of oral health.
Method: The community health centre said here is part of the Western Sanitary District, city of Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais - Brazil, with population estimated in 9,000 inhabitants; with medium to high risk of health vulnerability. The activity to be described refers to the knowledge of the territory focusing on their geography and territory as a process. The information is gathered by prefecture’s integrated software application, participation in local council and Family Health Team meetings; home visits and user listening, all this connects to demonstrate the dynamics of the territory.
Results: The attention and care to oral health are more humane and effective when attitudes suggested by staff are compatible with the condition of people’s lives, it promotes greater adhesion to what was proposed, with feasible actions to its context, considering their reality. In this unit, the adhesion could be identified by means of positive response from individuals in spontaneous reports.
Conclusion: Information about the range operation of the health centre encourages team interaction with the territory and its accountability for it. Facilitates identifying needs of individual and collective interventions with multidisciplinary and intersectoral approach, it is essential to define action strategies that are consistent with the local situation and the demands of residents, respecting its context and peculiarities.
