Purpose: Knowing the expectations of patients seniors of 65 years previously to the opening of a new centre of health.
Design And Methods: Type of study: Qualitative through focal groups Setting of the study: Urban with placement in the home of the pensioner. Subjects: focal groups were carried out until saturation of the information; each group consisted of 8 participants, a moderator and an observer. Measurements and Interventions: aspects related to the physical structure of the centre were explored; professional profiles of the medical staff, infirmary and clerk; organization and relationship among welfare levels. The comments were recorded on video and audio and wrote down written about non verbal communication.
Results: Expectations of improvement: extensive, silent centre. Great and luminous surgeries, musical thread. Increase of the staff in medical and administrative state, more time for each visit and less bureaucracy. Decrease of the waiting lists for specialists and complementary tests, good technical scientific level of the doctor. Existence of talks for cardiovascular sanitary education and psycho-educational. Specialists in the same centre, elimination of the representatives of pharmaceutical industry in the centre and longitude of the attention.
Conclusions: Our older users desire an extensive centre of health, luminous and clean, a decrease of the bureaucratic transact and of waiting lists, as well as a good scientific level of the sanitary staff, who has been valued above the personal treatment. After the opening of the new centre, the expectations of the elderly patients to improve their satisfaction have been taken into account.
