Pp-443 Health Related Quality Of Life Among Elderly People Living In Edirne, Turkey

Aim: The elderly population is an age group that increased most rapidly in the population of the world and life expectancy period is increasing through the development of the chronic diseases. In this study, we aimed to investigate health related. quality of life of the elderly people living in Edirne.
Methods: Our study is an observational descriptive and analytic prevalence study. 884 people ( 453 males and 431 females) aged between 65 and 97 accepted to join to the study. In this study we used The mean Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-36, Geriatric Depression Scala and Standard Mini Mental State to evaluate health related quality of life among elderly people.
Results: In our study we evaluated that% 85 of the participants have chronic disease. We found that % 14,4 of the participants have depressive symptoms. Female gender, lower educational status, unemployment, being single and having chronic diseases were found as increasing factors on depression. Of the participants; 3 I .8% had scores below 24 in Standardized Mini Mental State. Participants who had older age and chronic disease had scored below 24 more than others. Cognitive status was poorer in people who had older age, had lower educational status, female, single, living alone, had no social security and had chronic diseases.
Conclusion: Chronic diseases are effects health related quality of life among elderly people. Most of the elderly people have one or more chronic diseases. Quality of life has emerged as an important outcome measure of optimal medical care, particularly for the treatment of chronic conditions.
