Aims: The aim was to determine Risk factor recurrence for cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus among adult population of Pancevo, Serbia.
Methods: Random sample of persons was examined with standard questionnaire and by medical examinations like measurement of body weight and height, waist circumference, blood pressure, blood sugar concentration and lipids level and taking ECG. The survey was performed between months of April and December 2007.
Results. There were 2563 subjects under test, 72% women and 28% · men. One out of two tested was over 60 years of age. Family history with cardiovascular diseases was found in 31,8 % cases and regarding diabetes mellitus in 18, 5%. Hypertension were found in 33, 3% of cases, and 20% of subjects have had high cholesterol and triglycerides levels. High blood sugar level was found in 12,7%. Not more than 26.6 % had normal body weight. Those with obesity were 32,9 % and 49% of subjects were reportedly physically non-active. Active smokers represented 26%, and 15,3 % declared alcohol consummation, but 52% of subjects declared that they are not having healthy nutrition. Without risk factors were 19, 7%.
Conclusions. High risk factor recurrence for cardiovascular disorder and diabetes mellitus has been found. Determined risks lead to the findings that it is necessary to continue with health education and to foster citizens' personal responsibility. It is the required to plan promotive activities particularly targeted to youth and working population exists.
