Born and raised in England, trained at Kings College School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, Dr. Kim Yu is an executive family physician leader with over 25 years of experience. As a national and international speaker, past president of the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians, and current President-Elect of the California Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Yu is a strong advocate for Family Medicine. Based out of California, Dr. Yu lives to #inspirecreatelead and works at the American Board of Family Medicine as the PRIME National Strategy Consultant and as Director of Health Care Strategy at KCS Inc., a multisite community health center, serving the Asian community and underserved populations in Southern California.
Having been involved in WONCA and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) since 2000, Dr. Yu has presented hundreds of presentations and served on the host organizing committee for WONCA World held in Orlando, USA, in 2004, and two terms on WONCA’s Organizational Equity Committee.
She has previously served as chair for the AAFP's Global Health Member Interest Group and convener for WONCA's Special Interest Group in Health Equity. She currently is the USA country lead for WONCA's Working Party for Women in Family Medicine, North America Region, and has worked collaboratively with many other SIGs and WPs. She has served as faculty and now co-chair for AAFP’s Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI), for the past seven years, and also as an advocacy and social media ambassador. She currently serves on the AAFP delegation to the American Medical Association and has interests in global health, health equity, advocacy, disaster relief, physician wellbeing, value-based care, population health, practice management, health IT, leadership development, and a wide range of primary care topics. Dr. Yu is honored to be the recipient of the 2025 WONCA Five Star Award for the North American Region, and to be nominated by the American Academy of Family Physicians as a candidate for Member-at-Large on WONCA's Executive Committee.
