Tuesday, 29 October 2024, 17:00-19:00 CET (16:45 casual welcome session)
Many GPs and trainees feel themselves incompetent to start the conversation with their patients about dying. Do you? Most people die in primary care or communities. Healthcare costs of the final year of life account for up to a quarter of the lifetime expenditure. Would GPs initiate advance care planning and increase the number of living wills, the nearing death might follow the patient preferences - with lower costs.
This snowball symposium is a workshop where we explore how to teach to start end-of-life discussions, and why it matters, whether the learner is a medical student or a trainee. Along with small group discussions, participants will be provided with some data and additional educational material.
If possible, ask your students/trainees and yourself before the workshop: Do you believe that you can influence your patient´s trajectory of dying?
