This month the EURACT Council Meeting was held in Riga from 11-13 April, where the council for 2019 – 2022 gathered for the first time. 30 countries (council members) were present, out of a total of 37.
President Elect: Dr Nele Michels, Belgium
Professor Nele Michels M.D, Ph.D. is a general practitioner at a group practice in Antwerp, Belgium, and assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Antwerp (Ph.D. thesis (2012) ‘Portfolio learning and assessing at the workplace: development, reliability and validity’). She is educational coordinator and vice-director of the Educational Committee General Practice at the Centre for General Practice, Antwerp and co-coordinator of the Skills Lab at the Faculty of Medicine. For the Flemish Interuniversity Centre for the Education of General Practitioners she is director of the Steering Group Workplace Learning and a member of the Steering Group Curriculum & Assessment. She has been a Board Member of the Educational Council at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Board Member of the Educational Council at the University of Antwerp for a number of years.
She is an active member of the Scientific Committee of the Dutch-Flemish Society of Medical Education and EURACT representative council member, chair of the Specialty Training Committee. Her focus of research is medical education, workplace learning, competence-based education, resilience, and capacity building in GP. She has both national and international publications and is a promotor and co-promotor of national and international research projects (e.g. VLIR-UOS TEAM project on intercultural competences, Loja - Ecuador).
Honorary Secretary: Dr Denise Alexandra Cunha Velho, Portugal
Dr Denise Alexandra Cunha Velho is a General Practioner/Family Medicine specialist at the Santiago Family Health Unit in Leiria, Portugalasse. She is also a PhD Student at the University of Beira Interior, Portugal. She is a also a Portugal EURACT Council Member.
Liason Person from Vasco da Gama: Dr Sophie Sun, France
Dr Sophie Sun graduated in 2018 and is currently working part-time in a multi-disciplinary health centre in Villeurbanne, and part-time at the university Claude Bernard Lyon 1 as a research fellow in general practice, with two main activities: teaching and research.
