The short answer is - yes!
A slightly longer answer:
Lifestyle Medicine is a medical specialty within conventional Western Medicine that uses therapeutic lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to prevent, treat, and even reverse chronic health conditions.
Over the last decade, Lifestyle Medicine has evolved alongside the dramatic rise in the prevalence of chronic diseases (WHO report September 2023) that can be avoided or better managed with the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.
Recognizing gaps in physician competence and confidence in prescribing lifestyle interventions, various programs have been developed to include theoretical knowledge and practical tools, enabling the integration of Lifestyle Medicine principles into daily practice. Professional Lifestyle Medicine organizations now exist in a growing number of countries across six continents, providing education and training in this field.
We have recently established the Lifestyle Medicine WONCA Europe Special Interest Group (SIG).
We invite you to join us at the upcoming conference in Dublin for our SIG activities:
-
Symposium: Applying Lifestyle Medicine in Primary Care Clinics
Learn about the impact of lifestyle factors on health and evidence-based interventions that promote healthier lifestyles. The symposium will feature short lectures providing practical tools to enhance skills and competencies for integrating Lifestyle Medicine into practice, followed by a panel discussion with Q&A.
-
Workshop: Developing a Lifestyle Medicine Training Program
This workshop aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to develop and implement Lifestyle Medicine education programs for medical students and general practice training. We will present examples from various countries and a framework for developing educational programs, along with hands-on activities to help start the process in your country.
