Summary of the 07/04/2025 WONCA Europe EB Meeting

 

The President's report included updates on key meetings, notably regarding the European Journal of General Practice (EJGP) and the upcoming Lisbon WONCA World Conference.

The report on EJGP activities given shows that the journal is stable, planning an anniversary editorial and Best Paper Award presentation in Lisbon, and taking initiatives to expand its reviewer base.

We updated information on three EU projects: EARLY (youth mental health), POINT (the 11-13/03/2025 Athens meeting), and EuroHeartPath (the upcoming Utrecht kickoff).

WONCA Europe will actively participate in the European Alcohol Health Alliance official launch during on May 8th at the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Congress, 7–10 May 2025 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and sign the Copenhagen Declaration, that will be released during the official launch.

Shlomo Vinker participated in a WHO-related event on sarcopenic obesity and will share relevant news.

European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), influenced by Tiago Villanueva, will launch an antibiotic stewardship initiative for primary care, with Sara Ares leading WONCA Europe’s involvement.

The International Society of Nephrology collaboration continues through Josep Vilaseca, with a MoU officially signed.

WONCA Europe will join the European Public Health Alliance for one year to assess the value of collaboration.

Planning for WONCA Lisbon 2025 includes leadership transitions, council procedures, trialing the voting system, and reviewing bids for the 2028 conference.

EB will advocate for regional input in the Montegut and 5-Star Doctor Awards, review scholarship applications, and consider a webinar debate on the role of family physicians in primary prevention.
