The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) invited WONCA President, Prof Vinker, to its 11th ESPEN Symposium. It was held in Sintra (Portugal) on December 1st-2nd 2024 with the theme was "Home nutritional care: from general practice to parenteral nutrition". Essential issues related to family doctors in the field of nutrition were discussed.
Prof. Vinker gave a short introduction to WONCA and the obstacles in implementing Family Physicians' involvement in the screening and management of nutritional problems in primary care.
Among the topics discussed were obesity, malnutrition, sarcopenia, and nutrition in diseases like renal failure and cancer.
During the symposium, Prof. Vinker also met other stakeholders in the field of nutrition. All were keen to continue the collaboration with WONCA Europe.
