WONCA Europe Newsletter
September 2024

Editor's Preface

We are pleased to bring you the September edition of our newsletter.

You may find out about our Networks, Special Interest Groups and Working parties’ activities, including the EYFDM News and Opportunities! August 2024, IPCRG August 2024 Newsletter, Lifestyle Medicine letter and WEWP on Policy Advocacy September Newsletter and WEWP on Policy Advocacy chair’s interview.

As always, our monthly newsletter contains a summary of WONCA Europe Executive Board monthly meeting and other activities.

Under the EU4Health project, PROTECT-EUROPE, WE led a task to identify and analyse strategies for clinicians’ interpersonal communication skills when discussing HPV and its vaccination with young people and their parents. We are excited to feature a paper recently published in the EJGP about the study.

Regarding the concerns of WE members, you may also find WW Statement on Health Professionals Working in Areas of Conflict which WE fully agrees with and endorses.

Please do not forget to register for the engaging Free Online Course on Early Chronic Kidney Disease Detection launched by WE.

We look forward to welcoming and meeting you in Dublin where WE will have its own booth at the conference.

Please keep updated visiting our web page and follow us on our Twitter (@WoncaEurope), Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

President’s Corner

Dear colleagues,

I am both honoured and thrilled to share our extensive preparations for our upcoming annual conference, which will be held very soon in Dublin, Ireland. For those who have registered, this year's conference promises to be an exciting experience. Over a thousand abstracts were submitted, and over 2,400 participants from Europe and many countries outside of Europe are already registered.

I had the privilege of serving on the scientific committee for the conference. We worked very professionally, and this is the right time to express my heartfelt gratitude to the committee members and especially to Andree Rochfort and Walter Cullen, the co-chairs of the committee chair, who steered the committee’s work with great professionalism, thoughtfulness, and creativity.

I would also like to thank the organising committee members, led by Claire Collins and Diarmuid Quinlan, for the thorough preparation of the conference. The president-elect, Thomas Frese, represented WONCA's board in the committee and kept our EB closely updated on the significant efforts made in preparing for the conference.

We are all looking forward to an interesting and scientifically high-level conference and, of course, a social gathering. It will be an opportunity to exchange opinions, meet old friends, and make new ones, all in a pleasant and respectful atmosphere.

See you in Dublin!

Prof Shlomo Vinker
WONCA Europe President
