WONCA Europe Newsletter April 2020 Edition

The First 2020 Newsletter of WONCA Europe

Dear Colleagues,
Dear Members of Member Organizations of WONCA Europe

We would have, in a few month’s time, met at our WONCA Europe 2020 conference in June, Berlin. We would have caught up as we always have been doing; we would have participated in face-to-face workshops, shared a drink at  the welcome reception and enjoyed the activities and socialised in the gala dinner looking at each other's eyes, seeing the body language and then we would say good bye until the next WONCA Europe conference in Amsterdam 2021. Some of us would meet sooner in a WONCA Europe Network meeting as has been traditionally happening for the last 25 years until this year. But things are not always as it is planned. This year, for your safety, upon recommendation of the Host Organising Committee  (HOC) and WECC, we have agreed on postponing the regular WONCA Europe Berlin Conference. Please follow the new web IT system for detailed information in coming weeks.

Facing such a change, WONCA Europe Executive decided that it would be nice to continue the dialogue also between our meetings. That will be through the new IT system which allows online/offline training, small conferences/webinars and etc but more than that by a periodic newsletter through which we would like to inform you about what the Executive is doing. Through the new IT system, we would like to disseminate online educational activities and what is going on in our Networks and WE Special Interest Groups. We hope that by sharing this kind of information we will strengthen the collaboration between our Networks, SIGs, Journal and MOs and also we may create a platform for the cross border activities in between the member countries. The web IT system is also for individual registration free of charge. Moreover,it will enable WONCA Europe to reach members of MOs when needed, and reply to their needs besides reaching them to ask for their contribution in some decisions and activities.

We would like you to actively distribute the newsletter to your members and national committees. We also use our media accounts to communicate but we hope to centralise our communication on the web IT system. We invite you to send in news, announcements of meetings, or whatever you think is relevant these days. You may find this first issue short as we want to keep the newsletter with short pieces of information.

If appropriate you may share the news in your channels freely and share your activities with us as MOs.

So welcome to our WONCA Europe Newsletter!

On behalf of the WONCA Europe Executive,
Mehmet Ungan, President of WONCA Europe

A Word from the Editors

We are delighted to introduce the newsletter of WONCA Europe (WE). We are planning to send it on a monthly basis to all our members in Europe to enhance the bilateral communication between WE Executive Board and all our members.

We have introduced a new website that will be dynamic, updated and a place to exchange ideas and information. Our vision is to put all the Member Organizations (MO), Networks and Specialist Interest Groups (SIGs) under the umbrella of this website and to share information between all parties.

We introduced links to web-based learning courses like PeerVoice educational activities and we are building our own capacity to introduce our own platform for e-learning with our lectures and courses. And we invite you to join us in these activities, especially in these times when face-to-face meetings have become scarce.

In every newsletter we will introduce one of our Networks / SIGs (Network/SIG of the month) and one of our MOs (MO of the month). In this way, we will share information and cooperation opportunities between the organizations under WE and we will create a real European network of family doctors.

Please share our newsletter with your colleagues, and tell them to create a personal account on our website (registration to our website is free-of-charge) and to communicate with us through our secretary, Barbara Toplek.

Yours,

On behalf of WONCA Europe Executive Board
Sonia Tsukagoshi, VdGM, Member at large
Shlomo Vinker, President Elect of WONCA Europe
