Working Party on Policy Advocacy

Background & Mission:

WONCA Europe, renowned for collaborating with national Health Ministries and EU institutions, is dedicated to enhancing health systems and primary care efficiency. Recognizing the pivotal role of family medicine in public health, our focus extends to disease prevention, managing non-communicable diseases, and offering inclusive healthcare, particularly to refugees and migrants.

EU Partnership & Goals:

Our alignment with the EU's health policies fortifies our commitment to augmenting healthcare quality and accessibility across Europe. This synergy aims to bolster Primary Health Care, recognizing its critical influence on community health outcomes.

Initiatives & Achievements:

The inception of our journey began with the launch of the EURODATA and PRICOV projects, funded by WONCA Europe, during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting primary care's significance. Subsequent online webinars facilitated the transformation of research into actionable insights for policymakers. This spurred the creation of a dedicated working group to amplify our impact on European policy-making.

Working Party on Policy Advocacy (WPPA):

The WPPA aims to empower policy advocacy, strengthen collaborative ties, and influence European policymakers to enhance Primary Health Care.

Objectives:

  • Enhance policy advocacy awareness and knowledge transfer across Europe.
  • Support the development of national and regional primary healthcare leaders.
  • Engage effectively with stakeholders and promote networking.
  • Increase our presence in EU policy discussions through transparency portal registration and participation in EU health polls.

Governance & Membership:

The Executive Board and Council approved the creation of the WP on July 7, 2023, for the coming 3 years.

The WP will ensure the representation of all the MOs from different countries in Europe as well as WE networks. Moreover, individual members with special interest in policy advocacy are welcome to join the WP.
