The Department of General Practice at Monash University warmly invites you and your colleagues to attend a three day international conference set against the backdrop of the beautiful Tuscan city of Prato, Italy from 15-17 May 2013.
Prato is a small Tuscan city, with a charismatic historic centre and a vibrant cultural life. The conference is located at the 18th Century Palazzo Vaj, which is an impressive building with an open air terrazzo, and is surrounded by medieval towers. This venue is truly an ideal location to hold a conference for both its cultural ambience and its ease of bringing together delegates and their families from around the world. Prato is regularly connected by train to Florence (20 mins) and is in easy reach of many international airports and railway networks.
Our conference theme is the Skillful General Practitioner. This major theme contains three intertwined and related sub-themes that will be relevant for any general practitioner/family physician or healthcare professional globally who is interested in this specialised area of medicine. The three sub-themes are:
• The Contemporary Doctor
• The Careful Doctor
• The Compassionate Doctor
These sub-themes will deliver stimulating and sometimes controversial insights to assist general practitioners/family physicians or healthcare professionals to meet some of the challenges of modern family practice. The Contemporary Doctor theme will explore the treatment of new epidemics with focus on the efficient and effective management of chronic illness. The Careful Doctor theme will look at diagnostic and therapeutic skills (including “hands on” workshops) whilst the Compassionate Doctor theme will increase knowledge and expertise in mindfulness for practitioner wellbeing and sustainable performance.
We look forward to meeting you in person in Prato!
