The EASL–Lancet Liver Commission calls for a paradigm shift in the liver disease response in Europe

The EASL–Lancet Liver Commission was launched on 2 December 2021. Wonca Europe President Prof Shlomo Vinker attended the launch event (virtually) and represented family medicine and prinmary care.

The EASL–Lancet Liver Commission calls for a paradigm shift in the liver disease response in Europe: prevention and early detection, not end-stage treatment of complications. Liver disease is now the second leading cause of years of working life lost in Europe.

The Commission reported on its findings and warned that Europe’s fragmented health policies and health systems need to become more integrated, coordinated and effective to enable earlier detection of disease and to bring common risk factors for liver disease like alcohol and obesity under control.
