WONCA Europe Newsletter
October 2021
Dear members of WONCA Europe,
As mentioned in the last newsletter, the current development is quite promising since the member organisations and networks of and WONCA Europe itself turns back to a normal modus. This is illustrated by a number of conferences which could be attended physically. Examples are the meeting of the Czech Society of General Practice (Prague, CR), European Medicines Agency meeting (online), WHO Europe 71th Regional Meeting (online), Euroson Pocus School (Vienna, AT), the EURIPA meeting (Siedlce, PL), the coming meeting of the WE Executive Board with the networks (online), upcoming WE Executive Board meeting (Vienna, AT), and the EGPRN conference at Halle (GER) as well as the informal council meeting of Wonca Europe (online).
Hopefully, we can now work on overcoming the consequences of the pandemic situation and refocus to work on the other challenges with the help of the community of general practice and family medicine. We, the Wonca Europe Executive Board, will support this with all our abilities.
With the best regards,
On behalf of WONCA Europe Executive Board
Thomas Frese, President-elect
WONCA Europe Newsletter Editor
The WONCA Europe president’s cornerDear colleagues, The COVID pandemic will stay with us for a while, but we are slowly adapting ourselves to live with COVID. It is difficult to plan ahead, regulations are changing all the time, bureaucracy is high and also the costs, but there is no substitute for face to face meetings I attended both Euroson Pocus School (Vienna, AT) and the EURIPA meeting (Siedlce, PL). And met the Polish minister of health and other leading stakeholders in the Polish healthcare system and we had discussions that I am sure will contribute to the new reform in primary care that is planned in Poland. In the Euroson Pocus School conference I had the chance to practice with new POCUS devices that are primary care oriented, and hope that will be available to all of us. All these activities could not be done by Zoom, and of course neither meeting and mingling with old friends after almost two years. It is time to normalize our life and to evaluate what we learned from the pandemic and its future implications. Yours, Professor Shlomo Vinker |
